Job summary

WPR is seeking a Statutory Accountant for its London finance team to drive statutory reporting, regulatory compliance and Solvency II solutions. The role offers exposure to UK and European entities and cross-functional collaboration.

You'll lead accounts production, assist in Solvency II reporting and contribute to finance transformation initiatives, including automation and new reporting technology.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Strong statutory reporting experience.
  • Experience preparing Solvency II reporting and QRTs.
  • Insurance or reinsurance industry experience.
  • Knowledge of UK GAAP.
  • Experience with SAP and/or WDesk advantageous.
  • Strong communication across stakeholders.
  • Proactive mindset for improving reporting processes and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead preparation of statutory accounts for UK and European entities.
  • Produce year-end financial statements and roll forwards using WDesk.
  • Support Solvency II reporting including SFCRs and Pillar 3 QRTs.
  • Liaise with auditors throughout the audit cycle.
  • Prepare regulatory returns (FCA, ABI, IUA, NAIC, ONS).
  • Review and enhance statutory reporting processes and controls.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Actuarial and IT teams.
  • Drive finance transformation and reporting system enhancements.
  • Maintain robust documentation and audit trails.

Job description

We're partnering with a leading insurer to appoint a Statutory Accountant to their London finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys technical reporting, Solvency II and working across a diverse portfolio of UK and European entities.

You'll play a key role in statutory reporting, regulatory compliance and finance transformation projects, working closely with Finance, Risk, Actuarial and external auditors while helping shape improvements across the reporting function.

The Opportunity

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you'll be responsible for producing statutory accounts across multiple legal entities, supporting Solvency II reporting requirements and driving improvements to reporting processes and controls.

Alongside your core reporting responsibilities, you'll contribute to finance transformation initiatives, automation projects and the implementation of new reporting technology, giving you exposure well beyond traditional financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of statutory accounts for multiple UK and European entities.
  • Produce year-end financial statements and manage prior-year roll forwards using WDesk.
  • Support the production of Solvency II reporting, including SFCRs and Pillar 3 QRTs.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors throughout the audit cycle.

  • Review and enhance statutory reporting processes and controls.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience working within the insurance or reinsurance market and enjoy technical financial reporting.

You'll ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • Strong statutory reporting experience.
  • Experience preparing Solvency II reporting and QRTs.
  • Insurance or reinsurance industry experience.
  • Knowledge of UK GAAP.
  • Experience with SAP and/or WDesk would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to work across multiple stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for improving reporting processes and controls.
