Job summary

The Raspberry Pi Foundation in the United Kingdom invites applications for a Staff Software Engineer to lead engineering teams, set technical direction, and influence architectural choices across multiple projects. The role supports Cambridge/remote (UK-only) work with occasional travel to Cambridge.

You will mentor engineers, design scalable web applications, and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver valuable solutions for hundreds of thousands of users.

Qualifications

• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
• Led complex technical delivery projects in an Agile environment.
• Deep knowledge of Rails/Node/React or front-end frameworks with PostgreSQL.
• Strong debugging skills for distributed systems.
• Experience improving performance of distributed systems.
• Proactive security tooling and practices.
• Infrastructure experience on Heroku, AWS, Cloudflare; Terraform/CircleCI.
• Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Knowledge of engineering patterns and standards.
• Experience writing technical documentation for varied audiences.
• Ability to communicate technology decisions clearly.
• Experience disseminating Agile practices across teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead on projects and services.
• Write secure, scalable code and follow best practices in security and performance.
• Propose and implement architectural solutions for scalable web apps and systems.
• Lead by example through code reviews and test-driven development.
• Mentor and coach senior engineers; share knowledge proactively.
• Accelerate delivery by resolving blocking technical issues and refining development processes.
• Own the technical quality and architecture of key projects.
• Improve team quality and provide architectural support to delivery teams.
• Define and own technical operations of products and services.
• Communicate technical decisions to stakeholders with focus on user needs and business value.
