Job summary

Airbnb's Hosting Services engineering team in London is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to define technical direction and build scalable host services from the ground up. You will drive architecture, lead cross-functional collaboration with product, design and business teams, and shape the future of hosting on Airbnb.

We expect strong backend, distributed systems and full-stack capabilities, plus a product-minded approach and hands-on leadership.

Qualifications

9+ years of software engineering experience.
Strong backend engineering expertise with large-scale, service-oriented and distributed systems.
Broad full-stack capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs and architecture.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical design and development of new customer-facing products, services and third-party integrations.
Shape technical strategy and architecture to balance immediate product needs with long-term quality.
Accelerate engineering innovation through reusable patterns, tooling and AI-enabled development.
Own the full product lifecycle from discovery through launch and iteration.
Lead across the technology stack and remain hands-on where needed to solve complex challenges.
Drive technical excellence and alignment with broader product and commercial objectives.
Collaborate with engineering, product, UX, data science and business stakeholders.
