Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Staff Software Engineer I to lead the design and delivery of core control‑plane infrastructure powering Confluent Cloud. You’ll own highly technical projects across multiple services and teams, shaping architecture and reliability of our cloud platform.

You’ll mentor engineers, drive key initiatives, and improve developer experience with tooling and CI/CD. You will collaborate with Cloud Platform, Kafka, Compute, Security, SRE and others to align on design trade‑offs

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of software engineering in backend or distributed systems.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms and Kubernetes.
• Proficient in Go, Java, or Scala and capable across services and automation.

Responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end architecture and delivery of control‑plane systems for Confluent Cloud.
• Lead cross‑team technical initiatives and drive execution.
• Improve reliability with observability, SLOs, runbooks, and safe rollout/rollback patterns.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to design reviews and knowledge sharing.
