Job summary

A healthcare provider in the UK is looking for an experienced Band 5 staff nurse to join the team at Woodlands Hospice, based at Aintree University Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality end-of-life care, assessing patient needs, and collaborating with healthcare professionals. This role requires a minimum of 12 months experience in an acute setting or previous palliative care experience. Candidates must hold a registered NMC pin and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 months experience working in an acute NHS area or previous experience within palliative care.
  • Preference for candidates with palliative care experience.
  • Band 5 staff nurse.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 5 staff nurse to join the team at Woodlands Hospice, based on the Aintree University Hospital site.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager and Senior Nurses to ensure a high quality care is delivered within the Inpatient unit.

We are a 15 beded (Single Rooms) unit. The candidate needs to be able to work in a fast paced busy area.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver end of life care as well as providing treatments and symptom control, and psychological support to patients.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of patients' nursing needs.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs and varying levels of complexity for patients requiring specialist palliative care.
  • Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patients' needs are met, especially in relation to discharge planning.
  • Safely administer medicines, infusions and blood transfusions as prescribed.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives including sharing sensitive news.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Act as a link nurse and resource for other nursing staff for a specific area of patient care.
