Job summary

A hospital trust in the UK is seeking a motivated Staff Nurse for the Women’s Health Unit. You will care for women undergoing various gynaecology procedures, providing total patient care and maintaining excellent communication with both patients and the multi-professional team. About the Role

The Women’s Health Unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital is seeking to recruit a motivated Staff Nurse who is passionate about women’s health and well‑being.

Previous experience in a gynaecology setting would be an advantage.

Working Hours

We currently open 7am – 10pm daily and your working pattern will reflect the diverse range of care, procedures and treatments we offer, including caring for women undergoing gynaecology day case procedures, termination of pregnancy, early pregnancy loss, early pregnancy assessment and emergency gynaecology assessment. It also encompasses the out‑patient gynaecology service with specialist clinics providing Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Urodynamics and treatments such as Novasure.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake total care of allocated patients, including admissions, discharges, observations, clinical procedures, pre‑ and postoperative care, and advice on health promotion to patients and their relatives.
  • Work within the early pregnancy assessment clinic, assessing patients with early pregnancy complications, caring for and administering medications for termination of pregnancy, and participating in care planning in conjunction with protocols and policies.
  • Ensure an excellent standard of contemporaneous record keeping related to patient care, both written and electronic.
  • Contribute towards a safe environment for patients, staff and members of the public, reporting any accidents and untoward occurrences to the Ward Leader.
  • Be involved in audit and research.
  • Have a working understanding of referral processes related to Safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Assessment.
  • Maintain close, effective communication with other staff in the multi‑professional team, reporting changes in condition to appropriate staff immediately.
  • Establish effective communication with patients and their relatives, ensuring they are informed of their condition, progress and after‑care arrangements as necessary.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Nursing Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to the practices laid down for the custody, checking, and administration of all drugs, reporting any discrepancies immediately to the WHU Ward Leader.
  • Ensure effective liaison with Support Services within primary and secondary care to provide continuity of care following discharge of patients from hospital.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Ward Leader for WHU.
Requirements

The post holder must be able to work without direct supervision, undertake clinical procedures and extended roles as indicated by service needs, work autonomously and as part of the multi‑professional team, take charge of the Women’s Health Unit after induction, and ensure appropriate use and allocation of resources. The role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
