The Cherwell Hospital is currently recruiting an exceptional Pre-Assessment Nurse to provide specialist nursing expertise, facilitating evidence-based, patient-centered care and assessment for a defined caseload of pre-assessment patients.
The role involves working both independently and collaboratively with a team of nurses and healthcare assistants to coordinate patients throughout their pre-assessment pathway, with significant input into patient management and care prior to admission for specified procedures.
Key responsibilities include acting as a resource and providing education for patients and healthcare personnel, directing the pre-assessment nursing team, carrying out relevant care independently within a multidisciplinary team, supporting staff within the Outpatient department, and participating in teaching and mentoring students and junior staff.
The nurse will also suggest improvements in care provision, recognize and challenge poor practice, and raise concerns appropriately. Ensuring that the nursing philosophy of care for pre-operative assessment is reflected in practice is essential.
The role requires ensuring high standards of nursing care within policies and procedures, acting as a liaison with the multidisciplinary team, communicating complex and sensitive information effectively, and supporting patients through advocacy, informed consent, and health promotion activities.
Qualifications and experience required include current NMC registration and a minimum of 6 months paid experience in a pre-op assessment nurse role within the past 3 years, with a proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A flexible, positive, empathetic character is also essential.
The position is based at Oxford Road, Banbury, within the Outpatients department of The Cherwell Hospital, which offers comprehensive orthopaedic and diagnostic services.
Benefits include a contributory pension scheme, 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, family-friendly policies, private healthcare, free uniform, DBS check, employee discounts, wellbeing support, recognition awards, and opportunities for career development through the Ramsay Academy.
