Job description

Working as a Band 5 Staff Nurse in Outpatients you will be expected to ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered in an effective and efficient manner, reflecting the values and ethos of The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

As an autonomous practitioner you will be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate, person-centred care and for assessing, planning and implementing the care needs of patients attending the outpatient department in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team.

As a staff nurse in outpatients, you will be supporting clinicians to manage patients through a variety of orthopaedic clinics, so good communication skills are essential.

You will also undertake specialist nurse-led dressing clinics with the support of the multidisciplinary team providing wound care and the knowledge to promote wound healing, which will be underpinned by attending a wound care course/module at Birmingham City University.

There is an expectation that you will support the patient pathway through our injection suite to ensure smooth admission and safe discharge and you may be in charge of the department in the absence of the Band 6 Sisters so the ability to use your own initiative and make sound clinical judgement is essential.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest specialist orthopaedic units in Europe. We offer planned orthopaedic surgery to people locally, nationally and internationally. We employ people of difference and are committed to growing an inclusive culture, where difference is celebrated, and people feel able to bring their whole and authentic self to work. We are a Disability Confident Leader and offer a range of inclusive, family friendly and flexible working arrangements and policies, to support our people in the workplace. Flexible working requests will be considered. The Trust is committed to the Disability Confident Interview Scheme and will offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a vacancy and consider them on their abilities. If you have a disability and need any support with your application or require any reasonable adjustments to be implemented please do get in touch with the Recruiting Manager for this position so that the team can support you.
