Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Staff Nurse/ODP to join the paediatric anaesthetics team. The role focuses on preparing anaesthetic equipment, supporting anaesthetists through induction and emergence, and monitoring children and young people during the surgical journey.

We welcome nurses with NMC registration or HCPC registration as an ODP and a Level 7 anaesthetic qualification.

Qualifications

• Anaesthetic course qualification at Level 7.
• NMC registration as a nurse appropriate to clinical speciality, or HCPC registration as an Operating Department Practitioner.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, check and maintain anaesthetic equipment, airway devices, monitoring systems and clinical supplies.
• Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance and emergence from anaesthesia.
• Monitor patients' wellbeing throughout the perioperative journey.
• Support the safe administration of anaesthesia within your scope of practice.
• Anticipate the needs of the anaesthetic team.
• Keep accurate clinical documentation.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
• Respond promptly to changing clinical situations and emergencies.
• Give reassurance and emotional support to children and their families.
• Work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, theatre, recovery, nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Maintain clinical competencies and take responsibility for own professional development.
• Support students and colleagues and contribute to a positive learning culture.
