Job summary

Staff Nurse role on Newton Ward in Walton, Liverpool, within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. You will provide high quality, evidence based care for acutely unwell service users in a 12 bed Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit, under mentor supervision and within a recovery focused model.

The role supports venepuncture, ECG training and ongoing professional development with opportunities for Arrive, STRIVE, THRIVE and post graduate certification in psychological interventions.

Qualifications

• Nurse registered in the UK with RMN qualification.
• Degree and evidence of post registration study.
• Approved phlebotomy training and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Job summary

Newton Ward is a 12 bedded Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit (PICU). This is a specialist service that ward supports patients when they are at their most acutely unwell.

We offer person centred psychology and also the opportunity to work along side psychology supporting service users to complete safety plans which help identify coping strategies and ways to manage their symptoms. We work with occupational therapists completing ward and off ward based assessments to ensure that when a service user has completed their recovery that they receive the support they require on discharge. Newton ward has worked closely with the centre for perfect care offering a least restrictive approach and no force first environment that enables patients to develop positive and trusting relationships with the staff on the ward. Allowing them a familiar and comfortable environment during the recovery process.

You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, completing venepuncture and ECG training becoming familiar with identifying physical health needs in addition to a service users mental health needs.

There are also multiple opportunities to engage in further training such as Arrive, STRIVE, THRIVE and post graduate certification in psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, evidence based care within the Mental Health Care Division for service users and their carers within inpatient and community services.

To carry out your duties as a practitioner under the supervision of a mentor.

To function as an associate nurse/named nurse/care coordinator/ to service users assisting in assessment, planning and evaluation and review of care, within a recovery focused model of care.

Where appropriate, to take part in a 24 hour system of rostering including internal rotation.
