Job description
Job Summary

Do you believe that Keeping mothers and babies together should be the cornerstone of newborn care?........If so this is the role for you! It is an exciting time for Neonatal services at St Helier's as we expand to support our Maternity colleagues to deliver exceptional Neonatal Transitional Care (NTC). The post holder will be part of the Neonatal nursing team and work flexibly across the Neonatal unit and Postnatal ward, depending on service need.
The successful post holder will work alongside families, supporting and teaching parents to care for their newborn or premature babies in preparation for discharge home. The post holder will be expected to work independently, under the supervision of the neonatal transitional care lead. With a team of band 4 nurses already in place, further expansion of the service will see the addition of a band 5 neonatal nurse on every shift. This will enable the service to provide a gold‑standard NTC service, offering NGT feeding at the bedspace next to the resident parent.
Please note this role is a shift worker position, as such you would be expected to work a variety of long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. We aim to recruit staff to a start date of 1/4/25, however this date could be flexible for the right candidate. For further information email Manju NTC Lead, details as below.

Main duties of the job

To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies. To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively: with the neonate's family/carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments within the Trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation. Support the nursing team in providing advice on breastfeeding, developmental care, family integrated care and parent education.
