Job description
Overview

We are looking for caring and compassionate individuals to join our cardiology team in the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. Two 12‑month fixed‑term posts.

Ward 6a is a 28‑bed acute cardiology ward consisting of 28 side rooms. It often has telemetry‑monitored patients requiring closer observation for abnormal heart rhythms. It is a fast‑paced ward with many variations of different cardiac conditions. We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic nurses to join our team to deliver the highest standards through great communication and prioritising skills.

Key responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for a group of patients and be their named nurse.
  • Able to complete ECGs for the patients.
  • Able to, or willing to, expand your skills and complete venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation and arterial blood gases.
  • Able to complete simple audits on the ward to ensure the highest standard of care is being delivered to the patient.
  • Willing to support students in developing during their placements on the ward and act as their supervisor.
  • Act as a champion for an area of nursing, for example tissue viability, dementia, ANTT, and attend study days to feedback information to the ward staff.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • Develop the clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
  • Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
  • Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications and experience

Cardiology experience is desirable but not essential. Newly qualified nurses are welcome to apply. We offer a full preceptorship in which an assigned preceptor will help you enhance your journey into nursing. To ensure the safety, privacy and dignity of patients at all times.

About the employer

The trust delivers a cardiac care study day targeted at improving nursing knowledge for ECGs, which each nurse on the ward completes as part of their cardiac competencies. The cardiac care study day also allows a day’s rotation to the Acute Cardiac Unit to allow completion of ECG practice alongside the chest pain specialist nurses.
