Job summary

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated staff nurse for the Garner Inpatient Unit in Bodmin. You will deliver high-quality, person-centred care to adults within an acute dementia setting, taking responsibility for assessment of care needs and developing individual care plans.

The role includes designated named nurse responsibilities, leadership of junior staff, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity and excellence in care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Current professional registration – NMC.
  • Mentor qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification and attending mentorship updates as required.
  • Experience of working with patients with a range of mental health problems.
  • Previous recent experience in caring for the elderly with mental health conditions.
  • Previous experience of working in an inpatient environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivations of Liberty.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients in line with clinical standards.
  • Provide named nurse responsibility for allocated patients.
  • Offer leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff—both qualified and unqualified—during shifts.
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of resources to maintain high standards of care.
  • Contribute to teaching and supporting nursing and non-nursing staff.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Team Leader and Unit Manager when required.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate staff nurse to join our team at the Garner Inpatient Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our service users by delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

As a staff nurse on our acute dementia unit, you will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and for developing, implementing, and evaluating individualised programmes of care. Education and Qualifications
  • Current professional registration – NMC
  • To act as a mentor for student university placements. Having the mentoring qualification or being willing to work towards this qualification and attending mentorship updates as required
Experience
  • Experience of working with patients with a range of mental health problems.
  • Previous recent experience in caring for the elderly with mental health conditions.
  • Previous experience of working in an inpatient environment
Knowledge and abilities
  • Able to own problems and get involved in the solutions
  • A range of knowledge around physical health problems associated with aging
