Overview

Ward F4 offers opportunity to learn about nursing patients with a range of respiratory conditions. You will be upskilled to cannulate, take earlobe blood gases, catheterize and deal with life-saving equipment such as non-invasive ventilation and high-flow oxygen.

Respiratory Medicine Service

Respiratory Medicine treats patients with a full range of respiratory diseases including: COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, Sleep Apnoea and Infectious Lung disease. The service is staffed from across many professions and includes consultants and their teams, ward managers and their nursing teams, specialist nurses, physiotherapy, respiratory physiology and other allied health professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the respiratory unit as part of a friendly and dynamic team with excellent standards and strong work ethic.
  • Be supported to develop into the band 5 role through preceptorship, peer support and a range of educational opportunities.
  • Participate in direct patient care, including cannulation, blood gas sampling, catheterization, and operation of life-saving equipment such as non-invasive ventilation and high-flow oxygen (as trained).
  • Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration with consultants, nursing teams, and allied health professionals.
