Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on the unit at Airedale. This is a JAG accredited unit with four functioning rooms. The unit provides a five day out hours service which includes a nurse on call rota.

Endoscopy Unit Scope

The function of the endoscopy unit is to provide a safe environment where patients receive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using a flexible endoscope. These include OGD, colonoscopies, flexi-sigmoidoscopies, ERCP, cystoscopies, respiratory service including EBUS and bronchoscopy which are performed on the unit supporting national programmes for urology and respiratory disease.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver care needs and maintain clinical standards under direction.
  • Develop and implement programmes of care, evaluation and updating of care programmes.
  • Carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, demonstrating procedures and supervising registered and unregistered staff.
  • Be accountable for personal nursing practice and maintain a high standard of patient care as associate nurse/named nurse.
  • Asses, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of patient care and keep abreast of current development and research in clinical practice to JAG standards.
  • Act as a mentor/assessor to students and Health Care Support Workers, participate and assist in research at ward/unit level, undertake study to meet the requirements of PREPP.
  • Practice the Endoscopy Nurse Skill Set (Band 5).
  • Work as a team assisting and supporting colleagues, monitor and audit the quality of the service, involve users in service development and observe all Trust policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional development and competencies, liaise and support other departments and wards.
  • Participate in on call rota once competency assessments are completed, maintain custody of controlled drugs and ward stock, assist medical staff and administer medication and reports patient condition.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Registered nurse with experience in endoscopy and/or respiratory services.
  • Knowledge and skill within respiratory services (bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, therapeutic drains) and urology (cystoscopy, catheter insertion).
  • Support theatre staff with GA endoscopies, co‑ordinate patient special diets and organise nursing care plans including admission and discharge of patients in accordance with District Transfer Policy.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills to support ward teams and supervise the service.
