Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset is recruiting a Staff Nurse to join the Emergency Department on a Band 5 grade. This permanent role offers 37.5 hours per week with both full-time and part-time options, based in Poole and the Dorset sites.

You will assess, plan and deliver care to acutely unwell patients, work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a patient-centred service as the ED undergoes a major transformation. Access to professional development is provided.

Qualifications

• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Previous Acute hospital experience.
• Diploma in Adult Nursing or Children’s Nursing, or Degree in Nursing or related subject.
• Emergency Department triage training and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Professional and patient-focused approach with NHS emergency care pathway knowledge.

Main duties of the job

As a Staff Nurse in our Emergency Department, you will assess, plan and deliver care for patients with a wide range of urgent and emergency healthcare needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will care for acutely unwell patients, prioritise competing demands, perform a range of clinical skills, and contribute to a safe, responsive and patient-centred service.

Working for our organisation

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

This service has a planned move from Poole site to Bournemouth site from Spring 2027.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
