Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to employ a dynamic forward‑thinking individual as a Band 6 staff nurse on Horder Ward. Horder Ward is a 12‑bed Acute Oncology ward caring for patients undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and palliative patients with complex symptom control and psychological needs. We are looking for a caring, compassionate and competent nurse who has a specialised interest in palliative care, works well under pressure, has excellent time‑management skills and is dedicated to excellent patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence‑led care to patients.
  • Exercise clinical judgement and decision‑making about patient needs in terms of long‑term goals or plans.
  • Participate fully in the day‑to‑day organization and running of clinical trials, including recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial and liaison with trial sponsors.
  • Assume personal accountability for nursing care delivered to a patient in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Help foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale.
Postholder Expectations
  • Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participate in Trust initiatives around infection control and care quality indicators.
  • Assist with any local or Trust initiatives to ensure continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care.
  • Be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health‑care professionals to ensure that these are observed.
