Staff Nurse (BAND 6) - Goldman Sachs Centre for Urgent Care

A position has become available for a Band 6 nurse for the Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced registered nurse who is highly motivated and enthusiastic, with a keen interest in caring for Acute Oncology patients. The post holder should work effectively within a team environment, have good communication skills, initiative, demonstrate enthusiasm about the role and share our passion and vision for providing high quality patient care. We are looking for highly motivated candidate to come and join our specialised team. The CUC operates Monday to Friday and provides advanced nursing services to Royal Marsden Hospital patients presenting with acute symptoms linked to their condition or treatment, supports those on ambulatory pathways, and offers care for elective patients scheduled for supportive care treatments such as blood transfusions and IV antibiotics. This role includes daily management and coordination of CUC operations. Candidates should be Registered Nurses with relevant experience in patient assessment, clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and ward or unit management. The position also involves contributing to service improvement initiatives within CUC and supporting transformation programmes throughout the Trust. Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as a staff nurse within CUC. They will provide a service to ensure the patients who are acutely unwell have an experience that is co-ordinated and efficient. The postholder will work collaboratively with medical colleagues, advanced nurse practitioners, other clinical and non-clinical staff across the trust and external agencies to ensure that patients receive seamless care across primary, secondary, and tertiary settings.

  • To be able to explain and expand on clinical diagnosis; preparation for investigations; treatment in accordance with the treatment plan recorded in the patient records.
  • To assess the educational and informational needs of patients and their family and provide appropriate evidence-based information for their safe management and care.
  • To adopt a problem-solving approach to symptom management to minimize adverse reactions.
  • To administer / check intravenous antibiotics and supportive therapies, including all necessary blood products.
  • To administer medicines as prescribed with adherence to The Code (NMC 2018) and The Royal Marsden Medicines Management Policy.
  • To work in collaboration out of hours with the clinical site practitioner (CSP) team, Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) and liaise closely with the clinical team / on call team (medical, surgical SpR, consultants, pharmacist or laboratory service) in order to initiate appropriate care for patients accessing the service.
  • To demonstrate a positive, realistic, and supportive attitude to the patient with cancer to ensure that physiological, psycho-social, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient and family are met.
