Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated nurse to join our Paediatric Renal team as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the renal dialysis nursing team.

The renal dialysis service is one of 12 centres in the UK caring for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, requiring renal replacement therapies including Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. We are seeking a motivated compassionate leader to support and inspire a multidisciplinary team, drive clinical excellence, and uphold the highest standards of care within the renal service including peritoneal and haemodialysis.

Leeds Children's Hospital is one of the UKs largest specialist children’s hospitals offering a wide range of treatments and care for children from birth to young adulthood and beyond. Our Paediatric Renal service is one of 12 centres in the UK providing renal replacement therapies and transplantation. We provide acute and elective inpatient services and manage a large number of patients within the Leeds children’s hospital outpatient department.

Job responsibilities

The role is to provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised family-centred, infant, child or young person-focused programmes of care. You will deliver care without supervision and take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients and at all times promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate family-centred, infant, child or young person-focused patient care.

The role will involve taking charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the Sister or Charge Nurse.

You will participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students as well as maintaining your personal development.

Leeds Childrens Hospital is a large secondary and tertiary hospital providing a wide range of specialties to the population of Leeds as well as the wider North Region. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for infants/neonates, children and/or young people in providing child or young person focused care.

  • Ability to travel between Trust premises and patient homes for posts that involve community visits

Qualifications

  • Essential: Registered Nurse; current registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register; willing to undergo training as necessary
  • Desirable: Child RN; Adult/Child Renal Level 1 or 2 course
