Job summary

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) is recruiting a permanent, full-time Staff Nurse within Rehabilitation Services. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care, promoting independence and meaningful recovery.

The role includes leading shifts, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating care plans within the MDT, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care in a recovery-focused environment.

Qualifications

• RNMH or RNLD qualification is essential.
• NMC registration or eligibility to practice in the UK is required.
• UK nursing registration is mandatory for this role.

Join Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) as a permanent, full-time Staff band 5 Nurse within our outstanding Rehabilitation Services and play a key role in supporting people with complex mental health needs on their recovery journey. Working within a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, person-centred care, promote independence, and help service users achieve meaningful recovery outcomes in a therapeutic and recovery-focused environment.,

A Staff Nurse assesses, plans, delivers, and evaluates care for service users, manages risks and medication, works within the MDT, and provides leadership and support to ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care.,

The Staff Nurse works as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to assess service users' needs, develop and deliver care plans, evaluate outcomes, and promote recovery and independence. The role supports the Charge Nurse and Team Leader in ensuring the service is delivered safely, effectively, and efficiently.,

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to service users.
• Assess needs, develop care plans, and review outcomes.
• Act as a Named Nurse and coordinate care for allocated service users.
• Carry out clinical and risk assessments and manage identified risks.
• Administer medication safely and follow Trust and NMC guidelines.
• Work closely with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), carers, and external agencies.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
• Lead nursing staff and coordinate shifts when the Charge Nurse is absent.
• Support, supervise, and mentor junior staff and student nurses.
• Promote recovery, equality, diversity, safeguarding, and service user wellbeing.
• Participate in training, quality improvement, and professional development activities.

Clinical Care

• Act as the Named Nurse for allocated service users.
• Assess service users, develop care plans, and review progress. [
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred, and evidence-based nursing care.
• Conduct clinical and risk assessments and implement risk management plans.
• Carry out nursing procedures in line with Trust policies and NMC standards.
• Administer medication safely and monitor side effects.

Communication and Teamwork

• Work closely with the MDT, carers, families, and external agencies.
• Maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with service users and professionals.
• Chair meetings when required and contribute to care reviews and ward rounds.

Leadership and Supervision

• Lead the nursing team in the absence of the Charge Nurse.
• Coordinate shifts and delegate work appropriately.
• Provide supervision and support to junior staff.
• Act as a positive role model for staff and students.

Documentation and Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
• Prepare reports for reviews, tribunals, and meetings.
• Ensure confidentiality and comply with information governance requirements.

Teaching and Development

• Mentor student nurses and support newly qualified nurses.
• Participate in mandatory training and continuing professional development.
• Assist with training and development of nursing staff.

Quality, Safety and Governance

• Comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
• Follow Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act requirements.
• Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, equality, and diversity.
• Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives.

• Completion of management training, Organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a management structure
• IT skills, in particular MS word
• Experience of assessing and managing clinical risk
• Experience in care planning
