Job description

The ED is a regional centre for Hyper Acute Stroke, the Institute of Liver Studies, and primary angioplasty, featuring a 10‑bedbed resuscitation area with a nursing ratio of 2:1. We care for patients from a diverse inner‑city population, and we are proud that the diversity of our community is reflected in both our staff and our recruitment strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to relatives.
  • Work with support, within a multi‑disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a specified group of patients from admission to discharge.
  • Supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate.
  • Maintain own personal development with support.
  • Deliver a high standard of evidence‑based care to patients.
  • Ensure good standards of care for patients are maintained at all times.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
  • Involve and support patients, relatives, carers, and friends in the care process.
  • Promote well‑being and involve patients and relatives in health education.
  • Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal communication at all times.
  • Maintain contemporaneous record keeping at all times.
  • Seek advice from more senior or experienced staff where appropriate.
Upholding Duty of Care and Clinical Governance
  • Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety, and well‑being of yourself, colleagues, visitors, and patients within the hospital.
  • Ensure all rules, policies, procedures, and standards of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, along with all relevant statutory and professional obligations, are adhered to at all times.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and privacy at all times.
  • Adhere to the Trust's policy on equality and diversity, respecting each patient's cultural and religious beliefs, gender, ethnicity, age, and sexuality.
  • Strictly follow the National Code of Practice on Infection Control.
Professional Development and Education
  • Take responsibility for your own personal development and remain up‑to‑date with nursing and medical knowledge.
  • Be aware of current research and its implications for your ward or specialty.
  • Act as a role‑model at all times.
  • Act as a practice supervisor and/or preceptor/mentor for junior and newly qualified staff.
  • Work with appropriate teaching staff to support effective staff development for yourself and others.
  • Participate in Trust and Divisional initiatives to develop nursing practice and support change.
