As a Staff ML Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping large-scale AI-powered applications that directly impact global payroll operations. This role combines advanced machine learning expertise with strong system design skills to deliver robust, scalable, and innovative solutions. You’ll collaborate with product managers, researchers, and engineers in a highly distributed team environment, driving high-impact projects at the forefront of applied AI. This is an opportunity to design, optimize, and deploy mission‑critical systems that push the boundaries of LLM and NLP capabilities while ensuring cost efficiency and reliability.

Accountabilities
  • Designing and deploying advanced LLM‑powered applications supporting payroll products and operations.
  • Leading system architecture, observability, and cost optimization for critical AI workflows.
  • Collaborating closely with ML researchers, product managers, and engineering teams.
  • Driving innovation by applying groundbreaking LLM and NLP methods in high‑scale environments.
  • Ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability of AI‑driven solutions.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of engineering experience with strong system design expertise.
  • Minimum 1.5 years building production‑grade LLM applications.
  • Strong Python expertise for AI/ML development and familiarity with Node.js.
  • Deep knowledge of vector databases such as Pinecone or Weaviate.
  • Hands‑on experience in prompt engineering, LLM API integration, and system reliability.
  • Proficiency with observability tools for AI systems.
  • At least 2+ years of applied research experience in information retrieval, NLP, and ML.
  • Bonus points for experience with RAG, LangChain/CrewAI, agentic workflows, multimodal systems, or pre‑LLM ML/deep learning expertise.
