Job summary

Addepar is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to join the Product Platform team in Edinburgh. You will design and implement API services powering our financial data ecosystem while modernizing architecture to support European expansion.

You’ll lead architecture designs, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, engineering, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, compliant solutions in a fast‑growing environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in software development with backend services.
• Deep knowledge of design patterns, API design, and the SDLC.
• Ability to influence technical direction in distributed systems.
• Understanding of REST, SBAs, and distributed systems.
• Rapid learner with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Curious, able to handle complex requirements.
• Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating with senior peers.
• Experience building services with Java, SQL and AWS.
• Nice‑to‑have Elasticsearch experience.
• Interest or experience in the financial industry or wealth management.

The Role

We are looking for a Staff Backend Software Engineer in Edinburgh to join the Product Platform team, which builds foundational components and cross-functional capabilities for our ecosystem.

In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of critical API services powering our financial data ecosystem while modernizing our architecture to fuel European expansion.

Who You Are

• You have extensive experience in software development, including building backend services in a professional environment.
• You have a deep and expert knowledge of software design patterns, API design, and the software development lifecycle.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction and make significant contributions to the architecture of complex, distributed systems.
• Understanding of REST, service-based architecture, and distributed systems.
• A rapid learner with robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• A curious person, who enjoys digging deep into requirements and handling complexity.
• You have a track record of amplifying your impact by mentoring other engineers and collaborating effectively within a team of senior peers.
• Experience building services with Java, SQL and AWS.
• Experience with Elasticsearch is a nice-to-have.
• Demonstrable knowledge of using AI in a professional engineering environment.
• Interest or experience in the financial industry or wealth management in particular.
