Job summary

Trading 212 is hiringStaff Backend Engineers to shape technical direction across teams and stay close to systems and code. You will tackle high-consequence backend problems that affect multiple services and product domains, beyond a single delivery cycle.

This is not a people-management role; success comes from technical judgment, credible execution and helping other engineers make better decisions, while remaining hands-on where fast prototyping creates clarity.

Qualifications

• Deep ownership of distributed backend systems operating at meaningful scale.
• Strong judgement in service boundaries, asynchronous communication, data ownership, consistency and failure modes.
• Clear communication that helps teams act on complex technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own high-consequence backend problems that span services, teams or product domains.
• Establish architectural direction and system boundaries without centralizing control.
• Lead technical decisions by evaluating constraints, alternatives, risks and trade-offs.
• Improve performance, resilience, data integrity, operability and failure handling across production systems.
• Resolve recurring structural problems and mentor senior engineers to raise review quality.
