Job summary

CrowdStrike is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in London to build ultra-scale data platforms using Java microservices and Spark/Scala data processing. You will work with Flink, Kubernetes, and AWS-native tooling to deliver threat analytics and insights.

Based in London, you will join a team delivering high-scale data pipelines, querying capabilities, and state-of-the-art analytics with equity and extensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience across backend/cloud development and data platform engineering.
• 5+ years building data platform products with Spark, Flink, Iceberg, or comparable tools in GCP.
• 5+ years of programming with Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
• Experience applying AI to improve decision-making and workflows.
• Proven end-to-end feature/product ownership with vague specs.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, and SDLC.
• Experience building large-scale data/event pipelines.
• Proficiency with relational SQL and NoSQL databases (Postgres/MySQL/Cassandra/DynamoDB).
• Test-driven development discipline.
• Proficiency with Linux administration tools.
• Ability to work effectively with remote teams.
• Go, Pinot/OLAP databases, Iceberg, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Parquet, Protocol Buffers or gRPC are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Write highly fault-tolerant Java code within Spark to produce platform products for data insights.
• Design, develop, and maintain ultra-high-scale data platforms processing petabytes of data.
• Participate in technical reviews and help develop new features and stability.
• Improve efficiency and reduce latency of high-performance services.
• Research and implement efficient ways for users to query data and extract results.
• Contribute to end-to-end systems from processing to data storage to tooling.

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements

• We need 10+ years of experience combined between backend/cloud development and data platform engineering roles.
• We need 5+ years of experience building data platform products or features with Apache Spark, Flink, Iceberg, or comparable tools in GCP.
• We need 5+ years of programming experience with Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
• We need proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.
• We need proven experience owning robust feature or product design end to end, especially with vaguely defined problem statements or loose specs.
• We need proven expertise in algorithms, distributed systems design, and the software development lifecycle.
• We need experience building large-scale data and event pipelines.
• We need expertise designing solutions with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres, MySQL, Cassandra, and DynamoDB.
• We need good test-driven development discipline.
• We need reasonable proficiency with Linux administration tools.
• We need proven ability to work effectively with remote teams.
• Experience with Go is desirable.
• Experience with Pinot or other time-series or OLAP-style databases is desirable.
• Experience with Iceberg is desirable.
• Experience with Kubernetes is desirable.
• Experience with Jenkins is desirable.
• Experience with Parquet is desirable.
• Experience with Protocol Buffers or gRPC is desirable.

• We research and implement new ways for internal stakeholders and customers to query their data efficiently and extract results in the format they desire.
• We contribute to the full spectrum of systems, from foundational processing and data storage through scalable pipelines to frameworks, tools, and applications that make data available to other teams and systems.
