Job summary

Wellington Management in London is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Research Technology team within Investment Technology. You will collaborate with IT colleagues to design, develop, test, implement and support solutions that meet business requirements and integrate with our world-class research platform.

You will tackle complex challenges, apply modern web and backend technologies, and contribute to architecture while ensuring production systems are reliable.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years designing and developing web applications and services using JavaScript or other enterprise technologies.
  • 7+ years experience with REST, TypeScript, JavaScript/NodeJS, Jest, Java, Python.
  • 5+ years designing and developing web apps using HTML5, CSS and React/Angular.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to delivery of high-quality investment research solutions from architecture to support.
  • Review requirements with business teams, analysts and QA.
  • Design prototypes and build new components across services, web, and backend.

Job Overview

We are seeking a candidate for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Research Technology team within Investment Technology. You will work closely with other members of IT including other developers, business analysts, and QA engineers to design, develop, test, implement, and support solutions to meet business requirements, and will also interact with members of our Investment Platform in architecting world-class research and collaboration capabilities. You will be faced with compelling challenges and encouraged to solve problems by using innovative techniques. You will work with and learn from exceptional technology and business professionals through cross-platform, data driven projects and assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality investment research solutions, including participating in architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment and support
  • Work with business teams, engineers and business analysts to review and qualify business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, and test plans
  • Design new prototypes and develop new software components based on functional specifications across the full stack - services, web and mobile clients, infrastructure and back-end
  • Work across various IT teams to coordinate and facilitate infrastructure upgrades, disaster recovery testing, and cross-functional projects
  • Modify and enhance existing systems to incorporate new functionality and to optimize for performance and maintainability
  • Provide technical guidance across initiatives to ensure capabilities are developed with latest methods and to the highest standards
  • Implement AI-driven solutions to enhance workflows and optimize productivity
  • Author architecture, technical design, and support documentation and ensure the adherence to established code-quality standards
  • Ensure stability of production systems by implementing tools for observability, data quality, and alerting, as well as providing hands-on support during on-call rotations
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience designing and developing web applications and services using JavaScript or other relevant enterprise technologies (e.g., Java, .Net)
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience designing and developing complex web services using REST, TypeScript, JavaScript/NodeJS, Jest, Java, Python or related technologies
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience designing and developing web applications using HTML5, CSS and modern UI frameworks such as React or Angular
  • Experience with, and a demonstrated understanding of, modern software development and testing methodologies such as Artifactory, GIT, and Jenkins CI
  • Experience developing applications with AWS cloud technologies
  • Intermediate-level experience with SQL
  • Experience with various software development methodologies, such as Agile
  • Familiarity leveraging AI in SDLC
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a non-technical audience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex concepts and to learn quickly
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a business-critical production environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability and willingness to work in an energetic, high-paced, team-oriented environment
  • BS or BA degree in computer science, math, physics, statistics or another related subject
  • Experience in a relevant financial domain is a plus
