Job summary

A leading ICT consultancy is looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage SQL and Oracle database systems. The role is fully onsite, requiring 4 days in London and 1 day in Milton Keynes. Candidates must have strong SQL/Oracle skills and prior experience with Microsoft SQL Server. Security clearance is also a prerequisite for this role, making it crucial for candidates to hold high-level security clearance or have held it previously.

• Experience in database administration, including back‑ups, maintenance, performance monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server internals.
• Able to work to tight deadlines.

• Installation, Configuration, Maintenance, Performance of DB systems – SQL and Oracle.

• Ensure backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.

Job description

Our client is looking for a DBA with experience in database technologies and good understanding of SQL/Oracle development. This is a contract role initially for 6 months with good possibility of extension.

Please note that this role is fully onsite – 4 days per week in London and 1 day onsite in Milton Keynes. Due to nature of the role DV + NPPV3 clearance is required.

Essential Experience

• Experience in database technologies and a good understanding of SQL/Oracle development and scripting tools; Oracle DB Architecture, Performance, Database Installation & Configuration
• Experience in database administration, including back‑ups, maintenance, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, security management, patch management
• Experience in implementing high availability setups such as Always on HA, Mirroring, log shipping and Microsoft Clustering
• Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft SQL Server Stack – SSMS, SSAS, SSIS & SSRS
• Experience working on Linux
• Able to work to tight deadlines and changing priorities
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server internals and core database functionality (indexes, schemas, triggers, etc.)
• Good understanding of database architecture and database design

Responsibilities

• Installation, Configuration, Maintenance, Performance of DB systems – SQL and Oracle
• Monitor & maintain and tune databases to optimise availability of server as well as troubleshoot performance
• Creating suitable Database alerts as well as proactively monitor and respond to alerts
• Troubleshoot performance and connection issues
• Build environments based on standards and best practices that would align to operational and business requirements
• Monitor database maintenance scripts for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics
• Producing, maintaining, and ensuring backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
• Application Implementation, IT application and applications support, technical support, problem solving, technical documentation, communication
• Support of application Installation, configuration, maintenance
• Availability for out of hours support as part of a support rotation
