Job Description

Permanent, Grade 4 £33,366 - £40,476 Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review.

Working 36.5 hours per week – we will consider job sharing or part‑time arrangements.

An exciting job opportunity has arisen to join Birmingham City Council’s expanding Environmental Health team.

This includes sports grounds and regulated stands hosting a wide variety of sports including football, cricket, rugby, speedway and athletics. We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate and experienced Sports Ground Safety Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Council deliver its statutory duties in accordance with the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975 and provide specialist advice to the Safety Advisory Group.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Council in delivering statutory duties under the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975.
  • Provide specialist advice to the Safety Advisory Group.
  • Travel within Birmingham as required – a car will be reimbursed for use.
  • Drive is essential.
  • Prioritise and manage workload to meet deadlines in a busy environment with competing demands.
  • Work flexibly, including some work outside normal officer hours.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and practical experience in sports ground safety work through a representative role working with sports grounds, one of the emergency services, building control or council sports ground safety.
  • Experience of the regulatory framework surrounding Sports Ground and Event Safety Management.
  • Experience attending Safety Advisory Groups to provide professional advice on sports ground, concerts and event safety.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in enforcement.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) at all levels, including with businesses, colleagues and partner agencies.
