Job description
Overview

Teacher Active is seeking passionate and experienced Sports Coaches to work with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Southampton and the surrounding areas. As a Sports Coach and Mentor, you'll do more than lead physical activity sessions — you'll inspire, guide, and support young people who have faced unique challenges in their lives. Through inclusive and engaging sports sessions, you'll help students build confidence, teamwork, and resilience, tailoring your approach to meet the individual needs of those with SEND, including autism (ASD), social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), severe and profound learning difficulties (SLD/PMLD), emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), and ADHD.

We're looking for passionate, energetic coaches who believe in the power of sport to change lives. You'll work within supportive SEND and alternative education settings that recognise how sport can boost emotional, social, and behavioural development — while acting as a mentor and positive role model who helps each young person realise their potential.

In return, you'll receive ongoing professional development, flexible working opportunities, and the chance to grow within a values‑driven team that's dedicated to making a lasting difference through sport. If you're ready to lead, inspire, and mentor the next generation, we'd love to hear from you.

Qualifications
  • Be patient, calm, and empathetic.
  • Be open to learning and committed to making a positive impact.
  • Be comfortable working with children with SEND and challenging behaviour.
  • Be able to build rapport with students and help them feel safe and supported.
  • Driving is highly desirable due to the location and nature of the role.
  • Experience in an education or care setting is a bonus, but not essential.
