Teaching Assistant / Sports Coach - Primary School (Permanent Role)
Location: Chadderton, Oldham
Salary: 13.68 - 17.00 per hour (based on a 32.5-hour week)
Start Date: January 2026

Empowering Learning are working in partnership with a welcoming and ambitious primary school in Chadderton, Oldham, to recruit a full-time Teaching Assistant / Sports Coach. This is a permanent, dual-focused role supporting pupils across the school in the morning and delivering high-quality sport and PE provision in the afternoons.

The successful candidate will play an important part in classroom support, small-group work and pupil engagement in the mornings, before taking responsibility for leading sporting activities and structured PE sessions each afternoon. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about education and sport who wants to make a meaningful impact across the full school day.

Key Responsibilities

Morning - Teaching Assistant Duties:

  • Support teaching and learning across EYFS, KS1 or KS2 (based on school need).
  • Provide targeted support to individuals or small groups.
  • Assist with classroom activities, behaviour management and pupil engagement.
  • Work alongside class teachers to help pupils make progress.

Afternoon - Sports Coach Duties:

  • Deliver structured PE lessons following the school's Schemes of Work.
  • Lead engaging, inclusive sporting activities for pupils across all year groups.
  • Support extracurricular and whole-school events such as sports days and inter-school competitions.
  • Model positive behaviours including teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, coaching or support role.
  • A strong background in sport, coaching or PE delivery.
  • Relevant coaching qualifications and/or a sports-related degree (desirable).
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A proactive, energetic approach and genuine passion for helping children succeed both in the classroom and through sport.
