About the school

Academics is seeking a confident, energetic and resilient Sports Coach to work within a Secondary SEMH Alternative Provision based in Basildon, Essex.

You will deliver PE sessions across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, engaging students who may be disengaged from learning. The ideal candidate will be a positive role model, promoting physical fitness, teamwork and healthy lifestyles while implementing the school's sports curriculum effectively.

This specialist provision supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Asperger's Syndrome
  • Speech, Language & Communication Needs
  • Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH)
  • ADHD and associated behavioural challenges

Many pupils have struggled in mainstream education, and some have EHCPs. The school provides a therapeutic, structured and supportive environment to help them thrive.

The role is suitable for experienced sports coaches as well as those with a strong background in coaching, mentoring, or youth work. This is a long-term opportunity, with potential to become permanent.

Experience, Training and Qualifications
  • Experience in SEMH, PRU or alternative provision (desirable)
  • Level 2 TA qualification or equivalent (preferred)

  • Strong ability to engage and motivate students through sport
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training (can be provided by Academics)
  • Team Teach training or willingness to learn
Eligibility (Required by Academics)
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
  • Two professional references covering the last two years
