Job summary

The Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust is recruiting for a Band 3 entry point into a developing Adult SLT assistant workforce. You will work alongside experienced Speech and Language Therapists across ENT/Maxillofacial/Head and Neck, Neurosciences and Acute Medicine to support patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

You will develop clinical, administrative and therapy support skills, maintain records, contribute to audits and service improvement, and work toward Band 4 Assistant

Qualifications

  • Experience in health, social care, education, or support setting.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Confidence with IT systems and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow supervision.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, health and safety, and professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to train and progress within competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Support SLTs in patient assessment and therapy delivery.
  • Assist with preparing therapy resources and materials.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Contribute to audit, service improvement and CPD activities.
  • Work across adult pathways in acute and specialist settings.

What you will bring to the role


  • Experience of working with people in a health, social care, education or support setting.

  • An understanding of the role of Speech and Language Therapy, or a willingness to learn.

  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office, email and administrative systems.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work in a busy clinical environment.

  • A compassionate, patient-centred approach.

  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from qualified clinicians.

  • An awareness of confidentiality, health and safety, and professional boundaries.

  • A willingness to undertake training and work towards agreed competencies.

  • An interest in supporting people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.


As the role develops, you will be supported to build the skills required for progression towards Band 4 Assistant Practitioner responsibilities. This may include developing greater confidence in delegated clinical work, contributing to training and education, supporting quality improvement activity, and working with increasing independence within agreed competencies.
