Job summary

ConnexAI in Manchester is seeking a TTS Research Scientist to advance real-time multilingual speech technologies and natural voice synthesis.

You will work with our in-house Data Annotation team, focusing on high‑quality data curation for model training, real-time performance and cross‑functional AI lifecycle involvement.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Speech & Signal Processing, or related field.
• MSc with 2+ years research in Speech or LLMs is acceptable.
• Strong foundations in Generative AI, neural networks and LLMs.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
• Ability to conduct independent research with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop high‑fidelity, low‑latency TTS systems with focus on naturalness and emotion.
• Develop voice cloning techniques for personalised agent experiences.
• Pair with junior team members to drive research goals and learning.
• Contribute to original research, publish papers, and present at AI conferences.
• Maintain biweekly progress within a sprint-based research environment.
• Write clear, concise technical documentation and research papers.

As a TTS Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in giving our agents a natural, human-like voice.

This role offers a world-class research environment: you will work alongside like-minded research scientists, supported by our specialist in-house Data Annotation team. This enables you to move beyond public datasets and curate bespoke, high-quality data for custom model training. While your primary focus is real-time and multilingual TTS, we foster a cross-functional culture where you can also contribute to Speech Recognition projects, developing a holistic understanding of the full AI Agent lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop state-of-the-art, high-fidelity, low-latency TTS systems, with a focus on naturalness, prosody, and emotion.
• Develop voice cloning techniques for personalised agent experiences.
• Pair with junior team members to drive research goals and foster collaborative learning.
• Contribute to original research, publish papers, and represent the company at global AI conferences.
• Maintain steady biweekly progress within our sprint-based research environment.
• Write clear and concise technical documentation and research papers.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Speech & Signal Processing, or a related field. Alternatively, an MSc and 2+ years of commercial or academic research experience in Speech or LLMs.
• Deep understanding of Generative AI, Neural Networks, and modern LLM architectures.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
• Proven ability to conduct independent research with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
