Job description

Job Title : Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6)

Location : Community Hospital in Hampshire

Hours per week : 18.75 hours

Accountable to : Outpatient Team Lead and Highly Specialist SLT

Service : Adult Community Speech & Language Therapy

The role focuses on providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and timely intervention for individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, clients’ homes, and inpatient wards. You will work within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver coordinated care that prioritises client outcomes, ensuring their ability to communicate and eat or drink safely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Autonomously assess, diagnose, and manage communication and / or swallowing problems.
  • Create tailored care plans and provide interventions based on clinical judgement.
  • Collaborate with MDT colleagues to provide coordinated care, especially for clients with neurological conditions.
  • Provide clinical support to colleagues and supervise students, SLT Assistants, and volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate case notes in line with professional standards and trust policies.
  • Contribute to triage, ensuring high-risk referrals are seen promptly.
  • Be flexible in providing SLT cover across community settings as needed.
Requirements
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • Registered member of the RCSLT and HCPC.
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing adult communication and swallowing impairments.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams in community and outpatient settings.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and excellent communication skills.
Desirable
  • Post-graduate qualification in dysphagia.
  • Experience with training, presentation, and delivering clinical supervision.
