Job description
Every Child Deserves a Voice — Could You Help Them Find It?

At this welcoming primary school in Gateshead, communication is at the heart of everything they do. The staff believe every child deserves to be heard, understood, and supported to express themselves confidently, and they’re looking for a dedicated Support Practitioner to help make that happen.

If you’re passionate about child development, language, and inclusive education, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Work closely with children across EYFS and KS1 who experience speech, language, and communication challenges.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support, using games, sensory play, and visual aids to help children build language and confidence.
  • Collaborate with teachers and the school’s SENDCo to adapt classroom activities and resources to meet each pupil’s needs.
  • Encourage positive routines, emotional regulation, and social connection.
  • Communicate regularly with families and colleagues to share progress and celebrate small wins that mean a lot.
  • Support the wider classroom when needed, bringing energy, empathy, and a problem‑solving mindset.

This is a full‑time, term‑time role starting immediately, ideal for someone who wants to gain hands‑on experience before pursuing a career in education, psychology, or speech and language therapy.

Who You Are:
  • A recent graduate in Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, or a related field, or have equivalent experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Naturally patient and empathetic, with a calm presence even when things get tricky.
  • Curious about how children communicate and eager to use creative tools (like stories, crafts, or sensory play) to help them express themselves.
  • A great communicator — clear, approachable, and collaborative with both children and adults.
  • Looking for a role where your work genuinely changes lives, one conversation at a time.
Why Join Protocol Education?
  • We’ll match you with a school where your skills and personality make a real impact.
  • Access free, accredited professional development through our CPD Academy, including courses in Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism Awareness.
  • Regular check‑ins and one-to‑one support.
  • Competitive pay, paid weekly through PAYE (no umbrella company).
  • A supportive, people-first culture where your growth and wellbeing come first.
