Speech and Language Therapist Empowering Communication in a Specialist Setting

Contract:

Permanent Part-Time (Immediate Start) transitioning to Full-Time from September

An established and well-respected specialist primary setting in West London is seeking a qualified and passionate Speech and Language Therapist to join their multidisciplinary team supporting children with autism and complex communication needs.

This is a rare opportunity to work in a school committed to tailored therapeutic education where communication is at the heart of everything. The role starts on a part-time basis moving to full-time from September.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed assessments to identify pupils speech language and communication profiles
  • Design and deliver targeted interventions both 1:1 and group-based that are functional and engaging
  • Work collaboratively with teachers therapists and parents to integrate communication strategies into daily routines
  • Track and evaluate progress adapting approaches as needed
  • Support the wider staff team with training and resources to embed best practice in communication
  • Promote a communication-rich autism-friendly environment across the school
Ideal Candidate
  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist
  • Experience working with autistic children or pupils with additional needs
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Confidence delivering evidence-based interventions in educational settings
  • Creative proactive and reflective in practice

Required Education

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia / SpLD or SEMH specialism). Proficiency in alternative / augmentative communication methods Makaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de‑escalation and safe‑handling with assistive ed‑tech tools and adaptive software
