Speech and language therapy support for all classes is an integral part of the Abbey School model and part of meeting our values of:

About the role
  • Onsite full‑time during the school year (39 weeks and no travelling between different sites)
  • Permanent contract
  • Start Date: January 2026
  • Salary: 36,445 – 43,959 (points 28–35 on the Abbey School Professional Pay Scale). Salary is dependent on qualification and number of years post‑qualification experience.
  • Salary is not pro‑rata although onsite hours are term time only; salary is split evenly across 12 months and paid the same every month.
  • You will work within our trans‑disciplinary team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Behaviour Analysts
  • Small caseload; you will be responsible for a small number of classes with 6‑7 pupils per class. You will work closely with the class‑based staff and other onsite professionals in a pupil‑centred model.
  • Hands‑on – you will see your classes every week and maintain continual support of pupils in your caseload across the school year without pressure to discharge.
  • Please note this role is not suitable for newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists.
Key responsibilities
  • Deliver specialised speech‑language and communication support to children and young people (aged 4‑19) with complex autism, learning difficulties and behaviours that challenge within a school setting.
  • Collaborate as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure every pupil’s needs are understood, accurately planned for and closely monitored.
  • Empower teaching staff with expert advice to support pupils’ communication development driving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
  • Provide both direct and indirect therapy to individuals and groups of pupils ensuring tailored care and support.
