Job summary

Orbis Education and Care is seeking a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our therapy team across Powys. You will assess and design intervention for children with complex communication needs, working within inclusive educational settings.

You'll collaborate with teachers, care staff and other therapists, provide training, and contribute to EHCP/IDP planning. Term-time only pattern and competitive pro rata salary reflect your expertise and impact on pupils' communication outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Relevant post-qualification experience supporting autistic children and young people with complex needs.
• Strong knowledge of SEND frameworks and person-centred practice.
• Experience delivering training, mentoring, coaching or workforce development initiatives.
• Understanding of AAC, PECS, Makaton and Dysphagia, or willingness to undertake further specialist training.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational and case management abilities.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech, language and communication assessments for children and young people with complex needs.
• Design and deliver tailored intervention programmes for individual pupils and groups.
• Support learners with communication and interaction difficulties, AAC, and eating and drinking challenges where appropriate.
• Work closely with education, care and therapeutic professionals to ensure communication strategies are embedded throughout the school environment.
• Provide expert advice, guidance and coaching to colleagues to enhance communication outcomes across the setting.
• Deliver training sessions for staff, families and carers, promoting consistency in communication approaches.
• Help create and maintain communication-friendly learning environments.
• Contribute to EHCP/IDP reviews, multidisciplinary planning meetings and wider therapy service developments.
• Champion best practice and evidence-based approaches to communication support.
