Part‑Time Speech & Language Therapist

Special School – Haringey, N17 (Ages 5–19, ASD Focus)

Key Details

• Role: Speech & Language Therapist
• Hours: 2–3 days per week (term‑time, with some flexibility)
• Setting: Special school, Haringey
• Pupils: Ages 5–19, majority with ASD and complex communication needs

Responsibilities

• Assess the speech, language and communication needs of pupils across the school (5–19 years).
• Plan, deliver and review evidence‑based interventions for children and young people with ASD, including 1:1, small group and class‑based work.
• Support functional communication, including the use of AAC, visuals, PECS, communication books and / or high‑tech devices as appropriate.
• Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents / carers and the wider therapy team to embed communication strategies across the school day.
• Contribute to EHCPs, annual reviews and written reports.
• Provide training, coaching and modelling for school staff to build confidence and consistency in communication support.
• Monitor progress and adapt programmes in response to pupil needs and outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience working with children and young people, ideally including those with ASD and / or special educational needs.
• Good understanding of ASD and its impact on communication, learning and behaviour.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

Desirable

• Experience working in special schools or specialist provisions.
• Experience with PECS, social communication approaches and / or sensory‑informed practice.
• Experience providing training or workshops to education staff or parents.
