Job summary

NHS Tayside in Dundee is seeking a Forensic Physician to join the 24/7 custody healthcare and forensic examination service. The post is 3 months temporary, 4 sessions per week, with a small autonomous team of Forensic Physicians.

You will perform examinations on adults and children, with opportunities to present findings in court, travel as required, and contribute to a highly specialised, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must have MRCGP; forensic medicine experience is essential.
• Willing to travel with own transport to custody sites and police facilities.
• Postgraduate exams via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine are available for career development.
• Role involves custody healthcare and performing forensic examinations across varied settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform forensic medical examinations and custody healthcare.
• Be part of a 3-forensic-physician rota covering 24/7 operations.
• Present findings in court where required; liaise with police and custody staff.

We are seeking enthusiastic committed General Practitioners with an MRCGP qualification; however applications from non General Practitioners with relevant experience will also be welcomed. Experience in Forensic Medicine is essential.

The role of the forensic physician is varied and interesting. The work is divided between custody healthcare and the performing of forensic medical examinations. We have an experienced autonomous team of Forensic & Custody Nurses who act as 'gatekeepers' to the service. The nurses manage patients in custody and coordinate and corroborate forensic examinations. The Forensic Physician will perform examinations and assessments of adults and children under the instruction of Police Scotland. This offers a diverse range of clinical presentations in an exciting and fluid environment. You are permitted a privileged insight into the inner workings of the police and criminal justice system with opportunities to present your findings in court.

You will be part of a team of 3 Forensic Physicians covering a 24/7 rota. This post covering every second weekend (4 sessions)

Facilities include medical and forensic medical rooms in the police headquarters. The Service boasts a purpose built paediatric examination suite and a forensic examination suite in non police settings.

Post graduate examinations are currently available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (a sub faculty of the Royal College of Physicians) and offer career development opportunities.

Pay scale is Salaried GP scale £79,861 - £119,198

After the initial 3 months there may be an opportunity to extend.
