Job description
Overview

We are inviting applications for a full-time Specialty Doctor post in Forensic Psychiatry. Full registration with the General Medical Council is a requirement for appointment. The post includes resident on‑call duties (rota 1 in 12) and opportunities to work with forensic services and secure prison healthcare across the East Midlands.

Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric and physical health care to in‑patients under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Review psychiatric care at regular intervals, update medical records, and liaise with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Attend ward rounds and conduct CPA reviews in consultation with the patient’s Consultant, providing reports as required.
  • Provide day‑to‑day medical care to patients under your care, including urgent matters through the Wathwood Physical Health Centre.
  • Accompany Consultants for assessments of patients referred from prisons or other hospitals.
  • Resident on‑call duties and deputise for absent colleagues as needed.
Qualifications
  • Full registration with the GMC is required.
  • Held a hospital appointment at the Senior House Officer/Core Trainee/Specialty Doctor (or equivalent) grade, including at least two years’ experience in psychiatry.
  • Eligibility to work full‑time; if unable, voluntary consideration may be granted on a personal basis.
Support and Development

The post provides weekly postgraduate programmes, including Journal Club, Case Conference, and a Trent Forensic Study Day twice yearly. Specialty Doctors receive support, training, and supervision from Forensic Consultants and are encouraged to engage in research and audit and receive appraisal and revalidation support.
