Job summary

A leading mental health service provider in Blackburn is seeking a Specialty Doctor to enhance services. This full-time role offers the chance to progress to Consultant level through the prestigious CESR program.   • Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
  • Experienced within a mental health setting.
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation and codes of practice.

  • Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users.
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds and attend multidisciplinary meetings.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Fountains is a high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men who have severe and enduring mental illness and who may have been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The individuals we support come to us following multiple placement breakdowns, failed treatment programmes or stepping down from secure settings.

At Cygnet Fountains we have a number of different options to help support individuals to move on. We have 3 self-contained flats within the service to enable service users to build their individual skills before discharge while still having the full support of the multi-disciplinary team.

Your role responsibilities

  • Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Assess referrals & un dertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
  • Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
  • Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
  • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
  • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
  • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
  • Participate in the on call rota dependent on the needs of the region

We are looking for someone who is...

  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Experienced within a mental health setting
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
  • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Preferably approved under Section 12 o f the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

Our CESR programme

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level and youll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

Youll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development and youll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
