Job summary

The City of Liverpool College is seeking a Specialist Tutor and Assessor in Liverpool to support students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD). The role includes needs assessments and Access Arrangement assessments, liaising with staff to create an inclusive learning environment.

You should hold a degree, AMBDA qualification or be willing to obtain it, and have strong communication, safeguarding and IT skills.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Recognised advanced specialist qualification (AMBDA).
  • Recognised qualification to assess students for Access Arrangements or willingness to achieve.
  • Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the College's IT programs.
  • Proven experience in assessing and supporting students with learning difficulties/disabilities.
  • Knowledge of learning support provision.
  • Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality/diversity, inclusion and health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the College's mission and values in all aspects of college life.
  • Complete initial screening for SPLD students and undertake in-depth assessments as required.
  • Undertake 1:1 teaching and support with individuals or small groups.
  • Deliver information, advice and staff development to help staff use inclusive approaches.
  • Liaise with ALS managers and curriculum staff to identify student support needs.
  • Undertake assessments and admin for access arrangements.
  • Promote the service across the College.
  • Stay up to date with SPLD and access arrangements regulations.
  • Support cross-college activities during enrolment and events.
  • Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to maintain relationships.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive culture for staff and learners.
  • Support safeguarding, health and safety policies and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain support records for claims and quality assurance.
  • Carry out other duties as needed.

Description

Job Title: Specialist Tutor and Assessor

Department: Learning and Support

Salary: £34,789 - £43,139 Job Type: 35 hours Per week, Permanent

The Role To contribute to achieving excellence in all aspects of support for students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD) through innovative and excellent practice. You will liaise with teaching staff to create an environment which enables students with SPLD reach their full potential. You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills to get the most out of your students and to engage the cross-college curriculum teams to provide an inclusive environment to students with SPLD throughout their learning journey. You should be experienced in supporting students with SPLD and will be required to undertake assessments of needs for a range of learning difficulties and /or disabilities. You will also be required to undertake the Access Arrangement Assessments as part of your role and hence will require relevant qualification and experience. Safeguarding, health and wellbeing are the responsibilities of every member of staff in the College. You will be expected to highlight any concerns you may have about the students to the relevant teams and keep yourself up to date with any training on Safeguarding and Prevent. Responsible to: SPLD and Language Support Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
  2. Complete initial screening process for students with Specific Learning Differences, (SPLD), and undertake in depth assessments as required
  3. Undertake 1:1 teaching and support on an individual or small group basis
  4. Deliver indirect support to college tutors, i.e. information, advice and informal staff development in order to assist staff to use differentiated and inclusive approaches
  5. Liaise with the ALS managers, progress leaders and curriculum staff to identify areas of concern regarding students’ support and academic needs
  6. Undertake assessments and associated administration required for students for access arrangements.
  7. Contribute to promoting the service across the College.
  8. Keep up to date with the latest developments in SPLD and Access arrangements to ensure compliance of latest regulations.
  9. To support cross college activities (Open Evenings, departmental meetings, parents' evenings ,whole College training events) in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods
  10. Liaison with internal and external stakeholders to secure and maintain successful relationships, including, for example, professional bodies, universities, schools and employers Contribute and develop a positive and supportive culture for all staff and learners, working towards the highest standards and driving aspiration for all staff and learners
  11. Support the College Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Inclusive Learning and Safeguarding policies, processes, arrangements and objectives
  12. Participate fully in staff development, including in-service training and development opportunities which are made available
  13. Take a proactive approach and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliances (e.g. GDPR, DPA, Safeguarding), thereby enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times
  14. Ensure that all support records are maintained and provided to the ALS admin team for claims and quality assurance purposes.
  15. Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade
