The role involves delivering targeted outreach and personalized support to help residents quit smoking. Candidates should have experience in smoking cessation and strong communication skills. The position offers a salary of £26,000 to £28,000 a year with full-time hours, flexible working patterns, and opportunities to engage with priority communities and promote health equity.
ABL Health has expanded the Gloucestershire Healthy Lifestyle Service with a new Tobacco Dependency Outreach Service, supporting residents to stop smoking through community-based, evidence-led interventions. The Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner will deliver targeted outreach and personalised behavioural support within one of our specialist pathways: substance misuse, homelessness and temporary accommodation, LGBTQIA+ communities and other priority groups, or social housing and the Polish community. They will generate referrals, provide one-to-one support, and recommend appropriate nicotine replacement therapy.
Grounded in the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) programme, the postholder will complete relevant training to ensure high‑quality, consistent support. The role focuses on delivering accessible and equitable stop smoking services, particularly in areas of high health need and among groups who may face additional barriers to healthcare.
Working closely with local partners, the practitioner will help shape culturally responsive outreach services for priority communities. The postholder must be flexible, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to service targets and supporting residents towards a smoke‑free future.
In this role, you will support priority communities by delivering evidence‑based stop smoking interventions, using motivational interviewing and behaviour‑change techniques to help clients make sustainable quits and reduce health inequalities. You will manage an active caseload, provide personalised support across community settings, lead peer groups, engage at outreach events, and work collaboratively with professionals to embed smoking cessation into routine care. You will maintain accurate records, follow safeguarding and risk procedures, contribute to service improvements, and uphold ABL’s values through professional practice, reflective learning, and positive client engagement. This is a varied, fast‑paced role requiring strong organisation, effective communication, and a proactive, compassionate approach.
ABL is an exciting fast‑paced, growing community health organisation. As a CQC registered provider of community health services, we are passionate about delivering evidence‑based, innovative, and relevant health care services in partnership with individuals, communities, and stakeholders.
