Qualifications

  • Experience working with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders within an MDT setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as a specialist practitioner.
  • Strong clinical reasoning skills to diagnose, interpret and manage complex cases.
  • Experience in neuromuscular and spinal disorders is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an SLT service to patients on general medical wards, HDU, and the spinal injury unit.
  • Run voice, general, and neuro outpatient clinics.
  • Assess complex patients, diagnose conditions, and develop and deliver individualized treatment plans.
  • Deliver training in the management of spinal cord injury patients and tracheostomy management.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for ENT and SLT-led clinics.
  • Support the establishment of an onsite FEES service.

We have an opportunity to work as part of a small specialist team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries.

This brand‑new post will work alongside our SLT clinical lead for Spinal Cord Injuries, providing Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) services for both communication and dysphagia across general medical wards, HDU, and the spinal injury unit, while running outpatient clinics in voice, general & neuro and the muscle team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide an SLT service to patients on general medical wards, HDU and the spinal injury unit.
  • Run voice, general and neuro outpatient clinics.
  • Assess complex patients, diagnose conditions, and develop and deliver individualized treatment plans.
  • Deliver training in the management of spinal cord injury patients and tracheostomy management.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and contribute to the joint ENT consultant clinic and SLT‑led nasendoscopy clinics.
  • Support the establishment of an onsite FEES service.
