Job summary

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a dedicated team based in Crawley, UK. You will deliver evidence-based SLT for adults with mental health conditions, dementia and complex swallowing disorders.

The role involves managing a varied caseload, collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues, and supporting student therapists, with the opportunity for visa sponsorship and NHS career development.

Qualifications

• Hold a recognised degree, master’s qualification or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
• Have current HCPC registration and a valid licence to practise.
• Be a registered member of the RCSLT.
• Have completed specialist short courses related to dementia or mental health.
• Hold a post-basic qualification in dysphagia.
• Postgraduate experience with adults with acquired conditions.
• Experience managing complex caseloads with communication needs and dysphagia.
• Experience supervising/learning under a clinical dementia/mental health specialist.
• Demonstrate effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.
• Assess complex communication and swallowing needs and plan interventions.
• Demonstrate communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills.
• Willingness to travel to other Trust sites.
• Meet DBS checks requirements.
• Visa sponsorship applications considered for UK Skilled Worker visa eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Join a specialist team providing services across adult mental health wards.
• Deliver high-quality speech and language therapy to adults with mental health conditions, dementia and other needs.
• Manage a varied caseload including dementia, dysphagia and related conditions.
• Conduct specialist assessments and provide appropriate interventions.
• Support ward staff to improve skills in identifying and managing communication and swallowing needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across social care, primary care and specialist services.
• Contribute to development and implementation of evidence-based care pathways.
• Receive clinical support from experienced therapists and leaders.
• Support student therapists where opportunities arise.

Education

Recognised degree or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy
