A healthcare charity in York seeks a Speech and Language Therapist to work with clients recovering from brain injuries. This role involves providing therapy, conducting assessments, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. A degree in Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration are essential. MAIN PURPOSE:
To work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team providing speech and language therapy input within the Brainkind neurobehavioral model to clients with acquired brain injury in liaison with internal and external professionals, relevant social networks, and People We Support.
With supervision, work as an autonomous clinical professional in a specialist area.
To work within the limits of own competence and area of responsibility and accountability, seeking help and advice where needed.
With supervision, work with a range of People We Support with complex: physical, mental, emotional health needs and/or challenging behaviours social care models deteriorating abilities.
With supervision, use evidence-based practice, person centred principles and clinical reasoning to undertake comprehensive assessments, considering environment, context, social networks and future plans, of People We Support in order to formulate appropriate: rehabilitation goals, care plans, communication therapy programmes, referrals, communication partner training
With supervision, evaluate service user progress and make alterations as required.
With supervision, develop an understanding of the neurobehavioral approach to brain injury, demonstrating knowledge of current research findings, and best practice in the field.
With supervision, overcome barriers in communication to actively engage People We Support in assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning to gain valid informed consent. Where necessary, work within a legal framework with People We Support who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
To provide easily accessible information about People We Support communication abilities and support needs, providing training to others with supervision.
To support the People, We Support ability to communicate their consent around sharing information with family, carers, and other stakeholders, respecting everyone's right to confidentiality.
To identify possible dysphagia and refer on.
With supervision, write and verbally present reports, care and rehab plans which reflect People We Support needs, impact on functioning and summarizing findings, providing recommendations and referral when appropriate.
To maintain and produce accurate, professional up-to-date documentation, ensuring effective reporting is complete and consistent with legal and organisational standards.
