Job summary

Swansea Bay University Health Board is advertising a 0.6 whole-time equivalent Band 6 permanent post in the Adult Learning Disability Service. You will undertake communication and/or dysphagia assessment, management and advice, working with families, care providers and Local Authorities and contributing to staff training and MDT collaboration.

Applicants must have a recognised SLT degree, be registered with RCSLT and HCPC, and demonstrate dysphagia competencies with a commitment to CPD.

Qualifications

  • Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
  • RCSLT and HCPC registration
  • Postgraduate dysphagia training and competencies
  • Experience with dysphagia assessment and management
  • Ability to train and supervise others
  • Experience with AAC and specialist treatments
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • CT/MDT collaborative working experience

Responsibilities

  • Undertake communication and/or dysphagia assessment, management and advice
  • Work with families, care providers and Local Authorities
  • Provide staff training and MDT working
  • Use and interpretation of assessments for caseload
  • Plan and deliver clinical audits and service development
  • Implement a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
  • Teach SLTs and other professionals, as required

Job description

If the answer is YES, then Swansea Bay UHB have 0.6wte Band 6 permanent vacancy you can apply for in our Adult Learning Disability Service (22.5hours). We are active in related CENs and work closely with SLT colleagues in acute services, local authorities and private providers. There are strong working links across the whole SLT department with opportunities to develop clinical skills and expand professional development with support from specialist colleagues and SLT Clinical Leads. We prioritise service development and evidence-based practise., The post holder will be required to undertake communication and/or dysphagia assessment, management and advice. Working with families, care providers and Local Authorities will be central to the role, along with the provision of staff training and MDT working. Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant dysphagia competencies and experience, with a commitment to maintaining and developing skills through supervision and CPD. You will have regular opportunities to collaborate with other SLTs across the Swansea Bay ALD service. A key focus for the postholder will be the continuing development and maintenance of the Inclusive Communication Initiative for which the department has a comprehensive training package and support system. An established supervision and support network is in place across the SLT team., The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
  • Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
  • Completion of postgraduate specialist courses - Dysphagia, Assessment and management of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties
  • Support and mentor less experienced SLT's, students and assistants
  • Use and interpretation of assessments relevant for specialist caseload
  • Experience and knowledge of use of AAC
  • Planning and delivery of clinical audit
  • Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
  • Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision, Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
  • Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis
  • Good verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information
  • Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management
  • Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies
  • Implementation of clinical governance/audits/research within relevant specialism
  • Ability to use Microsoft packages including virtual platforms, spreadsheets etc, Experience of conflict resolution
  • Ability to speak Welsh, Demonstrates understanding of own scope of practise and peson centred care
