Job Summary

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team within NELFT. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated individual to join our friendly department as part of our band 6 rotation scheme on a permanent basis.

Rotations include H&N Cancer, Inpatient Stroke Rehab, Neurology, and Voice/Dysphagia.

The post holder will work within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team and provide an effective service to patients across NELFT community sites, including the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

Main Duties

Work with adults experiencing a range of acquired disorders of communication and swallowing. Provide holistic patient care in collaboration with MDT staff. Manage own caseload and supervise therapy assistants. Participate in service development and clinical research projects.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • HCPC Licence to Practice
  • Show active interest in CPD in line with RCSLT guidelines
  • Post‑graduate training in dysphagia
  • Completion of RSCLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Competencies
Experience (Essential)
  • Significant relevant experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level
  • Experience working in a multi‑agency and/or multidisciplinary team
  • Planning and delivery of training to other professionals
Desirable
  • Experience of videofluoroscopy and /or FEES clinic
  • Experience of supervising others
Knowledge (Essential)
  • Awareness of NHS Plan, NSF and clinical governance priorities
  • Knowledge of acquired communication and swallowing disorders
  • Knowledge of assessment tools, treatment techniques and therapeutic interventions
  • Awareness of standards of record keeping
  • Understanding of safeguarding
Skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrate clear clinical reasoning based on evidence‑based practice
  • Organise and manage own caseload
  • Allocate duties and supervise therapy assistants
