Job overview

Westminster, and Kensington and Chelsea Schools Team

We have an exciting Bank opportunity for a band 6 SLT to join our SLT education service. The role will involve working in the mainstream education service in the boroughs of Westminster, and Kensington and Chelsea.

You will work closely with other professionals as part of the programme, including a specialist SLCN teacher, and a team of teaching assistants as well as parents/carers and school staff to enable children to develop their speech, language and communication skills and to access the curriculum.

The post holder will:

  • Provide advice to others regarding the management and care of children with communication difficulties.
  • Be accountable for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Provide some day-to-day supervision and peer review support to less experienced colleagues and students, including second opinions when necessary.
  • Run appropriate training independently for school and other staff.

In the CLCH SLT service we are passionate about reducing inequalities and have an active diversity and inclusion ethos. Take a look at our recruitment video to find out more about working in our teams:

  • To assess the need for, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • To analyse auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of children’s communication and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness in the home, school and other relevant settings.
  • To make appropriate clinical decisions following assessment, using evidence-based practice and outcome measurement to provide the most effective treatment to children and their families within clearly defined care plan.
  • To make a differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment.
  • To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures relevant to the field, in particular in the field(s) of specialisation.

We can offer you:

  • Work within innovative, motivated and well-established teams, in a supportive and progressive environment.
  • Joint working with other professionals, parents, and class teams to develop a shared understanding of each child’s speech, language and communication needs and how these can be supported.
  • Support to develop your supervision skills and skills in training others.
  • Access to 1:1 & peer group supervision sessions and a regular in-house training programme to develop clinical skills.
